Documents circulating in paper form are increasingly being substituted by itselectronic equivalent in the modern office today so that any stored document can be retrievedwhenever needed later on. The office worker is already burdened with information overload, soeffective and effcient retrieval facilities become an important factor affecting worker productivity. The key thrust of this article is to analyse the benefits and importance of interaction betweendocument management and knowledge management. Information stored in text-based documentsrepresents a valuable repository for both the individual worker and the enterprise as a whole and ithas to be tapped into as part of the knowledge generation process.document management, knowledge management, Information and communication technologies

In The Shade of God’s Sovereignty: The Anti-Modern Political Theology of Sayyid Qutb in Cross-Cultural Perspective

This thesis is a study of the Egyptian radical Islamist thinker Sayyid Qutb’s (1906-1966) concept of God’s Sovereignty in a comparative and cross-cultural perspective. Thus, this dissertation employs a methodological mix of comparative hermeneutics, discourse analysis and a diagonal, lens comparison in order to provide a more capacious understanding of Sayyid Qutb as the first political theologian of God’s Sovereignty in the Sunni Islamic space. Moreover, it argues that Sayyid Qutb’s critical discourse is not an irrational, knee-jerk repudiation of modernity, but a seminal example of an Islamist antitheses political theology that meets the major ideological driving forces of western political modernity on their own terrain. Qutb analyzes and ultimately rejects all major ideologies of modernity: Socialism, Communism, Nationalism, Capitalism and Liberal-Democracy via a set of essential dichotomies: Jahiliyah (non-Islam) versus Nizam al-Islam (the “order” or “system” of Islam) and Hakimiyat-Allah (divine sovereignty) versus Taghut (human tyranny). These crucial antitheses are central for Qutb’s political theology, serving as cornerstones of his radical political hermeneutics and as driving forces of his discursive and rhetorical strategies. This study aims to expand the perspective on Qutb’s Islamist radical critique of modernity by placing it in a family resemblance model. Therefore, it compares Qutb’s master concept of God’s Sovereignty and the dichotomies listed above, within and across the religious divide with commensurable constructions produced by other anti-modern political theologians. At the level of endogenous comparison, this dissertation focuses on the Pakistani Islamist Abu al-AÊżla Mawdudi (1903–1979), while at the level of exogenous comparison, the counterparts are two important anti- modern, antitheses political theologians: the Catholic counter-revolutionary Juan Donoso Cortés (1809–1853) and the Protestant political theologian Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920). The study demonstrates that despite cultural, historical and religious differences, Qutb’s political theology of God’s Sovereignty shares significant conceptual affinities and a critical vision with Mawdudi, Cortés and Kuyper. This common ground proves that Qutb’s political theology is not an endemic product of the Islamist space or a narrow expression of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, but an essential dimension of a more complex configuration that uses political theology as a conceptually disciplined critique of modernity

ABSTRACT : The airport traffic demand has been increasing steadily over the las1 decades making ground traffic at airports a critical issue with respect to security and efficiency. This thesis presents a multilevel approach for the analysis and the optimisation of airport ground traffic operations. This thesis is divided in threes parts : - the first part introduces the overall problematic and its environment, - the second part of the thesis deals with the medium term planning level. A global approach to estimate the theoretical as well as the practical airside capacity at airports, is proposed. This approach is based on a mathematical network representation which allows to take into account the structure of the ground traffic system and the resolution of a set of large mathematical programming which can interact with traffic simulators. - the third part of the thesis deals with the short term tactical level. An adaptive approach to manage at the tactical level the routing and scheduling of arriving and departing traffic. An operational approach is then proposed to solve the corresponding optimization problem

A SENSITIVE METHOD FOR SALIVA DETECTION IN FORENSICS USING SALIVARY AMYLASE COUPLED WITH AMPLEX RED OXIDATION

    Get PDF
A new sensitive method for saliva detection was developed, based on salivary amylase detection but with a final fluorescent product, which increases its sensitivity. After the starch is degraded due to the presence of salivary amylase, glucose is oxidised and generates hydrogen peroxide which is able to transform Amplex Red in resorufin - a highly fluorescent product. The final product is visible both under normal and UV light. The method is fast, accurate, can detect trace amounts of saliva and shows little to no interference with other body fluids. A further increase in sensitivity could be obtained by using horseradish peroxidase in the final step, but this would also lead to an increased background signal and stronger interference with urine

Objectives: The aim of our study was to analyse the utility of the CBCT systems among the dental residents form the Dental University of TarguMures. Material and methods: We conducted an anonymous survey using a questionnaire that included 11 questions. All the 55 participants from all dental specialties studied at the Dental University Center Targu-Mures. The completed questionnaires were collected the results were evaluated and statistically analyzed using chi-square test. Results: Most residents have learnt about the CBCT during the university studied by participating at different radio-imagistic courses outside the curriculum. Only 33 (60%) residents recommend daily a CBCT for supporting their diagnosis most of them being oral surgeons and 7 (12.72%) of them occasionally recommend between 1 and 5 CBCTs a month. Conclusions: The CBCT system used as an imagistic evaluation in all dental specialties is essential and the advantages can be found in the accuracy of establishing a correct diagnosis, creating a treatment plan and results evaluation

THE IMPACT OF OPERATING MICROSCOPE ON THE OUTCOME OF ENDODONTIC TREATMENT PERFORMED BY POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

Aim of our study. To assess the impact of the operating microscope on the success rate of primary endodontic treatments performed by postgraduate students, during their training program in Endodontics. As null hypotheses we considered that the use of a dental operating microscope in cleaning and shaping the root canals has no statistically significant influence on the treatment outcome in non-surgical treatment of apical periodontitis. Material and methods. We selected a series of 184 consecutively cases of necrotic teeth with chronic periapical lesions that met the inclusion criteria, in which the therapy was performed by postgraduate students or specialists in Endodontics. All patients were treated under the same conditions, regarding materials, techniques and instrumentation. Results. The outcome of the endodontic treatment was assessed based on the recommendations made by the European Society of Endodontics. At 6 months there was a statistical significant difference of the outcomes between study groups (p=0.0151) which became more evident after 18 months (p=0.0078). Conclusions. High-quality endodontic therapy is the basis for long-term clinical and radiological success in endodontic treatment of necrotic teeth. State of the art equipment and thorough knowledge are very important in reaching this goal

Objectives: The aim of our study was to highlight the advantages of using Cone Beam Computed Tomography in the study of the extent of the alveolar bone loss, compared to the conventional intraoral radiography and to prove the boon of the CBCT scans for establishing the correct periodontal diagnosis. Material and methods: A total of 16 patients with age between 35-55 years old, and a minimum of 8 teeth per dental arcade, presenting peridontal clinical symptomatology were selected. We used a custom periodontal chart that included the measuring of the gingival recession and the pocket depth in 6 points for 16 teeth, 8 maxillary teeth and 8 mandibulary teeth in all cases. For the radiographic evaluation we used CBCT imaging and intraoral radiography. Results: CBCT scans offers the possibilities of measuring with accuracy the alveolar bone loss on mesial, distal vestibular and oral sides. It provides images with the exact position of the bone and also the expediency to assess the correct diagnosis. Retroalveolar radiography offers just a hint of the possible position of the alveaolar bone in all cases the anatomical details were offered by CBCT. Conclusions: A correct periodontal diagnosis using conventional radiography is not possible because of the superimposition of the anatomical structures. The importance of CBCT imaging is no longer disputed, at the present time it is the best radiographic investigation available
